Poonam, 15 — fighting a bone tumour in her right leg
A large tumour in her shin bone has taken away her ability to walk. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
About a month before her first scan, Poonam started having pain in her right leg while walking, following an injury. An MRI in April 2026 found a large growth deep inside her shin bone, near the knee. A PET-CT scan in June 2026, done on referral from AIIMS, confirmed the growth was large and fast-growing — most likely a bone cancer such as osteosarcoma or Ewing's sarcoma, though a biopsy is needed to confirm the exact type.
She has since started chemotherapy. Her leg is currently in a supportive cast and she uses a walker to move around. The encouraging news: her latest scan found no sign that the disease has spread elsewhere in her body, and her heart was checked and found strong enough for treatment.

Kartik Aaryan, 7 — born with a hole in his heart

Kartik Aaryan is 7 years old, from Panapur village in East Champaran, Bihar. He was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect — Tetralogy of Fallot, a condition where a hole between the heart's chambers (VSD) is combined with other structural changes that reduce oxygen in his blood — when he was just 4 months old. His family lost follow-up on his treatment for several years.
Over the past year, Kartik began having repeated episodes of abnormal body movements and loss of consciousness, lasting 2–3 minutes at a time and increasing in frequency. He was admitted to AIIMS in May 2026 for evaluation, where doctors found his heart rate was running unusually fast and adjusted his medication. He was discharged stable, with instructions to return for regular cardiology follow-ups.
Kartik has since been reviewed by the cardiothoracic surgery team at AIIMS and accepted for corrective heart surgery (Total Corrective Repair). Blood tests, thyroid function tests, and a 24-hour heart monitor (Holter) have all been completed as part of his pre-surgery work-up. He is now waiting for the funds needed to go ahead with the operation.

Hiyansh Sonwani, 3 months — born with a complex heart defect
Hiyansh has a complex congenital heart disease and has been referred for corrective heart surgery at AIIMS. His family needs support to see him through treatment.
Hiyansh Sonwani is just 3 months old, from Arjuni, Dimar, in Chhattisgarh. About a month after he was born, his parents noticed he was breathing heavily, feeding poorly, and had recurring cough and cold. They brought him to AIIMS, New Delhi, where paediatric cardiologists found that his heart had not formed correctly before birth.
Tests showed a complex combination of defects: his heart's main vessels are connected abnormally (double outlet right ventricle), with a hole between the lower chambers (VSD), a hole between the upper chambers (ASD), a narrowing in his aorta (coarctation), and an extra blood vessel that should have closed after birth (PDA). His heart rate has also been running very fast.
Despite all this, there is real hope: his heart's pumping function is currently good, and doctors have laid out a clear surgical plan — closing the ASD and VSD, repairing the narrowed aorta, and tying off the extra vessel. He has been referred to the cardiothoracic surgery team at AIIMS to plan this corrective surgery.
- Diagnosis Complex congenital heart disease — double outlet right ventricle (DORV) with a subpulmonic VSD, an ASD, coarctation of the aorta, dilated pulmonary arteries, and a small PDA.
